On 19 March 2026, two new railway stations will open in Willenhall and Darlaston near Bloxwich, West Midlands, marking the first time passenger trains have served these areas in over 60 years. This project aims to give residents better transport links to nearby towns and cities, making it easier for people to get to work or visit family without needing to drive.

The new stations are the result of an £85 million investment led by Walsall Council and Transport for West Midlands. This funding has provided modern facilities for passengers, including accessible lifts and large car parks where drivers can leave their vehicles and finish their journeys by train.

Before this opening, the last time passenger trains stopped in these communities was in 1965. Local leaders, including the Mayor of the West Midlands, have supported the work to help boost the local economy and make the area a better place to live and work.

The project was completed through a partnership that includes the West Midlands Rail Executive, Network Rail, and West Midlands Railway. These groups have worked together to restore the tracks and build the new station buildings to help reduce traffic on local roads.
