The Met Office has placed Bolton under an Amber extreme heat warning until 11:59pm tonight as temperatures push towards 32°C. The Met Office forecast shows humidity between 40 and 67 percent will make it feel closer to 30°C across the borough, with very high pollen levels adding discomfort for hay fever sufferers.

Friday will bring little relief, with another 32°C day forecast and the humidity reaching 84 percent. A separate Yellow thunderstorm warning runs from midnight until 10am, though any rain is expected to clear quickly. The Met Office has rated UV levels as High on both days and is urging residents to seek shade during midday hours, cover up, and wear sunscreen.

Pollen counts remain very high through Friday before easing to High from Saturday, when the heat finally starts to break. Temperatures will drop to 26°C and feel closer to 22°C, then fall further to 20°C on Sunday and Monday. The weekend cool-down follows what the Met Office describes as an extended hot spell, part of a wider heat event that has triggered heat health alerts coordinated with the UK Health Security Agency across southern and central England and Wales.

The Amber warning reflects the risk that these temperatures pose to health, particularly for older residents, young children, and those with existing medical conditions. Keeping curtains drawn in sun-facing rooms, drinking plenty of water, and checking on neighbours who may struggle in the heat are all sensible steps while the warning remains active.
