Older and disabled residents in Bolton, Greater Manchester, will be able to travel for free on buses at any time of day starting from 1 March 2026. The change means that concessionary pass holders are no longer restricted from using their passes before 9:30 am on weekday mornings.

The update applies to all buses within the Bee Network, which is managed by Transport for Greater Manchester. Mayor Andy Burnham said the decision was made after hearing from residents who needed to reach early medical appointments or get to work without paying extra fares.

This permanent change follows two successful trials held in 2025 which involved around 400,000 people. Local authorities, including Trafford Council and Stockport Council, have highlighted how the new hours will help people stay active and connected in their communities.

Alongside the new travel hours, all bus and tram fares across the region will be frozen until at least the end of 2026. This includes the £2 single bus fare, which is intended to help residents with the ongoing cost of living.

While the new rules cover all Bee Network services, passengers are reminded that some restrictions may still apply if they travel on buses outside of the region. This move is part of a broader plan supported by organisations like Safer Highways to create a more integrated and accessible transport system for the public.
