A man was taken into custody following a vehicle pursuit and a foot-chase through Bolton, Greater Manchester, on 8 March 2026. At around 12pm, automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras flagged a car that was using cloned registration plates, which led officers to begin searching for the vehicle.

The car was spotted at approximately 12:20pm, and the driver tried to escape, eventually abandoning the vehicle and running off. Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Road Policing Unit chased the suspect on foot and were able to catch and arrest him.

The suspect was initially arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and driving without a valid licence or insurance. During a search of the abandoned vehicle, officers also discovered a knife.

A member of the public assisted the investigation by informing officers that the suspect had thrown a rucksack over a fence into a garage compound during the chase. Inside the bag, police recovered 20 wraps of crack cocaine, resulting in further arrests on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
