Bootle Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Stabbing

A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at a pub on Stanley Road in Bootle, Merseyside, on Monday, 9 March 2026. According to Merseyside Police, the incident happened at around 10.30pm in the doorway of the building.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was taken to hospital with knife wounds to his stomach and chest. Officers confirmed on Wednesday that he remains in hospital in a stable condition while receiving treatment for his injuries.

Before police officers arrived at the scene, two members of the public stepped in to help. These two men held the suspect at the scene until the police could reach the location and take him into custody.

Paul Diaz, of Bedford Road, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife blade in a public place. He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Wirral Adult Remand Court.
