A Bootle man who subjected a woman to a sustained physical and sexual attack while hurling racist abuse has been imprisoned for eight years. Karl Seiga, 36, of Langdale Road, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 26 June after he was convicted of sexual assault by penetration and malicious communications, Merseyside Police confirmed.

The assault happened on Wednesday 2 July 2025 when Seiga turned up at his victim’s home and launched the attack, mixing the violence with racist and degrading remarks. He was arrested and charged but then denied the offences, forcing the woman to relive her ordeal in the witness box during a trial. As well as the eight-year custodial term, the judge imposed an additional twelve months on licence and an indefinite restraining order to protect the survivor once Seiga is released.

Detective Constable Jemma Walsh said Seiga “subjected his victim to a horrific ordeal which she bravely reported to our officers. Not only did he carry out such a shocking crime, Seiga then chose to deny the offences and put her through the added trauma of a trial.” The officer praised the woman’s courage in providing statements and giving evidence that helped the jury see through his denials, and she urged any other victims of sexual abuse to come forward. Specialist support services operate right across Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, St Helens, and Knowsley.

The sentencing is the latest in a string of serious sexual offence cases concluded by Merseyside Police’s Bootle Neighbourhood Policing team and specialist detectives. In September 2025 a Bootle man received 21 years for rape and multiple sexual offences, and a month later Ryan McDonnell, 27, of Olivia Street, was handed a 12-year term for four counts of rape, ABH, and two sexual assaults. Detectives built their case against Seiga through detailed witness interviews, and the extended licence period and indefinite restraining order reflect the courts’ consistent approach of ensuring long-term protection for victims.
