Bootle, Merseyside, is set for a cold night as temperatures drop to -2°C, leading to widespread frost and icy patches on Saturday morning. The first freezing conditions are expected to arrive in the early hours as clear skies develop following a day of rain and sleet.

The Met Office expects the dry but freezing weather to start early on February 14, 2026. This sudden change may create slippery conditions for those travelling on Valentine’s Day, especially for shoppers heading to the Strand Shopping Centre or visitors to the local area.

The Environment Agency reported flood warnings for the region earlier on February 13, 2026, which means road surfaces are already wet and more likely to turn into dangerous ice as the air freezes. To help keep traffic moving, Sefton Council will grit its main network of busy roads and pavements, which covers about 470km across the borough.

Residents and students at Hugh Baird College are advised to take extra care on untreated side streets and pavements that might not be reached by the gritters. Drivers are encouraged to allow more travel time and check for local updates before starting their journeys on Saturday morning.
