Sefton Council has announced a new partnership with the Lumira Group to bring a £20 million investment to the golf course site in Bootle, Merseyside. The project, which was originally confirmed in March 2024, aims to improve local leisure facilities and help the local economy grow.
The development will focus on a piece of unused land at the corner of Dunnings Bridge Road and Boundary Road. Plans include building a modern clubhouse, a new hotel, and courts for padel, which is a racket sport similar to tennis.
Former Everton football player Victor Anichebe is leading the project as the founder of the Lumira Group. He stated that he is proud to invest in the town because it is a place close to his home and heart.
The council and the investment group also plan to look at how the golf course is managed in the future. Officials have promised that the cost for residents, juniors, and people over the age of 65 to play golf will remain affordable.
This project is part of a larger plan to update the area, which has already seen changes at the Bootle Strand shopping centre and the creation of the Salt and Tar event space. The goal is to make the town a more modern place for people to visit and spend time.
