On 11 March 2026, the BCP Council Cabinet approved a new 10-year plan to improve housing for vulnerable residents in Bournemouth, Dorset. This strategy sets out how the council will manage and provide homes for people who need extra help across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

The plan was fast-tracked so that improvements could begin sooner and was developed following conversations with people currently using supported housing. These residents shared their personal experiences about what makes them feel safe and ready to move forward with their lives.

The council will now work to expand extra-care housing for older residents and increase supported living options for adults with disabilities, mental health needs, or autism. There are also plans to strengthen housing paths for young people and those who are currently experiencing homelessness.

Cllr Kieron Wilson Portfolio Holder for Housing and Homelessness supported the approach of using resident feedback to ensure the new system provides dignity and stability. The strategy also focuses on making more homes accessible and adaptable for those living in the community over the next ten years.
