An eight-year-old pupil from Normandy Village School has won a £1,000 prize for their school by designing the new logo for a Camberley shopping centre’s dedicated community space. Rylin Palmer triumphed in The Square Camberley’s Community Corner Logo Design Competition, which invited young creatives from across the area to create the official emblem for the centre’s latest community initiative.

Centre Manager Gavin Vidler and Marketing Assistant Kim Hillier-Davies presented the cheque and a prize bundle during a school assembly on Tuesday 23 June 2026. Head Teacher Mr Franks and Art Lead Mrs L Marwick, who supported the competition within the school, welcomed the visit. Rylin’s design stood out for its colourful and welcoming style, which judges felt captured the spirit of the new Community Corner — a dedicated space set up by The Square Camberley to celebrate and support local community groups, charities and initiatives.

The £1,000 award will go directly to the school’s art department as it works towards Artsmark accreditation — a nationally recognised Arts Council England scheme that rewards schools with a strong commitment to arts and culture across the curriculum. Mrs Marwick said the initiative formed part of the school’s wider efforts to achieve the award. Normandy Village School, part of the South Farnham Educational Trust, serves children from Normandy, Guildford and surrounding villages including Pirbright, Ash and Ash Vale.
