Residents in Camberley are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote ahead of the upcoming local elections on Thursday 7 May 2026. This vote marks a significant change for the community, as residents will elect representatives to the newly formed West Surrey Council.

The deadline to register for these elections is midnight on Monday 20 April 2026. According to Surrey Heath Borough Council, it is vital for people to check their registration status if they have recently moved home, changed their name, or have only just turned 18.

This election is part of a major reorganisation of local government across the region. From April 2027, the current system of Surrey County Council and 11 district and borough councils will be replaced by two new unitary authorities: East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council. The councillors elected this May will initially serve as a shadow authority, where they will plan the new council’s budget and services before the new structure formally takes over next year.

Andrew Pritchard, the Returning Officer for the West Surrey Elections, is encouraging all eligible residents to prepare for the voting process. Residents planning to vote in person must bring an accepted form of photo identification to the polling station. Those who do not have an accepted form of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, but they must do so by 5pm on 28 April 2026.

Further information and registration services are available at Surrey Heath House, located on Knoll Road in Camberley.
