Work on a ten-year project to improve Carlton, Nottinghamshire, will begin this April 2026. Gedling Borough Council is acting as the accountable body for the £20 million Greater Carlton Regeneration Plan, which aims to upgrade local high streets, youth services, and health facilities across the community.

The initiative, set out in the Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Plan, covers a wide area including Netherfield, Carlton Hill, Cavendish, and Gedling. Local leaders have identified Netherfield and Carlton Hill as priority areas that will see significant investment to help tackle local challenges. The funding is spread over a decade to ensure long-term improvements to public spaces and the local economy.

There are five main goals for the project: improving safety, boosting the local economy, providing more for young people, helping residents learn new skills, and making green spaces better for everyone. David S Stewart OBE DL, the independent chairman of the Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board which oversees the work, said the plan is a great chance for residents to work together to improve their neighbourhoods.

Residents can expect to see changes to local leisure facilities and shopping areas as the first phase of the investment rolls out. The council and the board will hold sessions where people can share their thoughts on how the money should be spent in their specific streets and parks. This follows two years of planning to make sure the money goes where it is needed most.
