Residents in Carlton are being advised to prepare for heavy rain and strong winds throughout Wednesday 15 April 2026. The Met Office forecast warns that conditions will deteriorate significantly during the afternoon, with a 90% chance of precipitation expected between 3pm and 4pm.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, wind gusts in the area are expected to reach speeds of up to 32mph. The weather service notes that visibility could drop to around 4.6km during the peak of the storm, which may create challenging conditions for those travelling on local roads.

This shift in the weather follows a record-breaking period that saw the UK experience its warmest early April day in 80 years, with temperatures reaching 26.6°C at Kew Gardens. The current unsettled conditions serve as a reminder to take care while driving, as the Met Office points out that 9 out of 10 weather-related deaths and serious injuries on UK roads occur during rainy conditions. Drivers are encouraged to follow the rule of thumb that if it is time to use windscreen wipers, it is also time to slow down to ensure they can see and be seen.
