A new play about the real-life disappearance of crime writer Agatha Christie is coming to the Bonington Theatre in Arnold, Nottinghamshire (the venue serves the Carlton area). The performance of “Where is Mrs Christie?” will take place on Sunday, 17 May 2026 at 2:00 PM.

Starring Liz Grand, the one-woman show looks back at the 11 days in 1926 when the famous author went missing. The story explores different theories about why she disappeared, ranging from memory loss to a possible publicity stunt after her car was found abandoned.

The script was written by Chris Jaeger and focuses on a period in the writer’s life when she was dealing with personal loss and marital difficulties. Contemporary reports and later histories say Christie was found at the Old Swan Hotel (now the Old Swan Hotel) in Harrogate after an extensive search that involved hundreds of police officers and thousands of volunteer searchers — contemporary estimates put the number of volunteers at around 10,000–15,000.

The Bonington Theatre is owned and managed by Gedling Borough Council and offers an intimate setting with approximately 178 seats. Event listings on The Oxford Magazine reproduce positive reviews of the production; for example, a quote used on the listing — originally from The Stage — describes Grand’s portrayal as “irresistibly engaging, vulnerable, confiding and ultimately indomitable.”
