The Gedling Neighbourhood Team has reported a slight rise in vehicle crime across parts of the borough, particularly in the Daybrook and Bonington areas, during February 2026. While overall crime levels remain low, police are conducting ongoing enquiries to address the recent uptick in thefts from cars and vans.

Inspector Steven King said the increase in vehicle-related crime was most noticeable in the Daybrook and Bonington beat areas. Local officers are asking residents across the borough to double-check that their car doors are locked and to ensure that no valuables are left inside vehicles overnight.

Police also suggested that owners of cars with keyless entry systems should use signal-blocking Faraday bags or boxes to prevent “relay thefts.” These steps are part of a wider effort to reduce acquisitive crime across the borough.

In contrast, a separate year-long plan known as Operation Descent, aimed at tackling shoplifting in Gedling South, has seen successful results. There was a 34 per cent reduction in theft at five of the busiest shopping spots after police focused their efforts on those specific locations.

For the first three months of 2026, the local police team will continue to focus on acquisitive crime, anti-social behaviour, and the supply of illegal drugs. Residents can expect to see continued activity in hotspot areas as part of ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.
