Residents in Carlton can now put forward their local heroes for the 2026 Pride of Gedling Awards, as Gedling Borough Council opens nominations across six categories for the milestone tenth year of the programme. The awards recognise volunteers, businesses, young people and community projects that have made a lasting difference across the borough.
Nominations close on Friday 27 September 2026, and the council is urging people to submit anyone who has done something remarkable for their community. The six categories are the Community Hero(es) Award, The Dylan Barker (Young Person of the Year) Award, Business in the Community Award, Outstanding Community Project Award, The Environmental Hero Award, and The Inspirational Healthy Lifestyles Award. A judging panel selects winners based on what nominees have done to help others, not on how many nominations they receive.
Now in their tenth year, the Pride of Gedling Awards have grown significantly, attracting more than 300 nominations in 2025 alone. The programme covers the entire Gedling borough, including Carlton, Arnold, Mapperley and surrounding areas. Each year, an overall Pride of Gedling Award is presented, with the winner’s name added to a commemorative wall in the council chamber. The awards are backed by sponsors including Nottinghamshire County Council, Persimmon Homes, The Mellors Group, The Wilkins Group, Jigsaw Homes and Gedling Leisure.
Council leader Councillor John Clarke MBE has long championed the awards as a way to highlight extraordinary achievements that often go unnoticed. Residents can nominate through the council’s online portal until the September deadline.
