Tendring District Council approved its spending plans for the 2026/27 year on 11 February 2026, focusing on keeping essential services running in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. The council has balanced the budget to ensure that bin collections, housing support, and community programmes continue without major cuts.

Average households will see the council’s portion of their council tax bill increase by 2.99 per cent, which works out to an extra 5.96 pounds per year for a standard Band D property. Social housing rents will also rise by 4.8 per cent to an average of 108.46 pounds per week, a move that was supported by the council’s Tenants’ Panel.

A new 30 million pound waste and recycling contract has been signed, which will see weekly food waste collections expanded to include flats starting in April 2026. The council is also putting 1 million pounds into helping people who are homeless and has set aside 196,000 pounds to keep the Beach Patrol service running for the next two years.

Other local projects include 500,000 pounds to extend Clacton Cemetery. These plans are designed to provide a stable foundation before the council is expected to be abolished and merged with other local areas to form a single new authority by April 2028, according to Essex County Council.
