Clacton Library in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, will host free science workshops on Tuesday 17 February 2026 to give children hands-on learning during the February half-term. The “Polar Wonders” sessions will allow families to learn about the Arctic through experiments and building activities.

Children can try out “blubber gloves” to see how animals stay warm in cold conditions or build models of polar research stations. These sessions are being run by the Essex Library Service (Essex Libraries) in partnership with local STEM educators as part of the service’s February half-term programme. Booking and event information is listed on the Essex Library Service events page.

The workshops are part of the Everyone’s Library Service 2022–2026 strategy, which aims to place libraries at the heart of local communities as places for learning and support. The programme includes actions intended to help address barriers faced by low-income families during school holidays.

According to the library programme, these activities are funded through the Essex County Council library budget as part of the Everyone’s Library Service 2022–2026 strategy. The event arrives during a busy early-February period for the town: the Railway 200 “Inspiration” exhibition train is touring the region in early February 2026 and was scheduled to visit Clacton station in the first week of the month.

Sessions are expected to run in both the morning and the afternoon at Clacton Library on Station Road (CO15 1SF). Parents are advised to check the Essex Library Service events page for booking details and to reserve places early, as sessions have limited capacity.
