Police patrols in Clacton-on-Sea have resulted in a series of arrests and court convictions throughout March 2026, following a crackdown on local thefts and burglaries by Essex Police. The recent enforcement action saw stolen goods returned to victims and multiple offenders sentenced for crimes ranging from shoplifting to burglary.
Among those convicted was 54-year-old Brett Rowland, of Alexandra Road, who was arrested on 16 March 2026 while attempting to sell stolen power tools in the town centre. He admitted to handling stolen goods the following day at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court and received a 12-month community order, along with 80 hours of unpaid work.
Other cases addressed by the courts include Daymond Fithon, 52, of no fixed address, who was jailed for four months on 30 March 2026 for burgling a local fish and chip shop twice. Additionally, Alan Newcombe, 41, of no fixed address, received a two-week suspended prison sentence after being caught in possession of a coat stolen from a parked car. Christopher Righelato, 31, remains in custody and is awaiting a hearing on 10 April 2026 regarding charges of theft, fraud, vehicle interference, and breaching a criminal behaviour order. Meanwhile, Yakim Al-Bachari, 41, of Marine Parade East, is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 14 May 2026 to face a burglary charge.
The arrests were conducted by the local Tendring Neighbourhood Policing Team, which has seen its capacity increased over the last year. According to police data for the 12 months leading up to February 2026, these efforts contributed to a 9% reduction in theft offences across the district and a 62% increase in the number of solved cases. Business burglaries also fell by 35% during this period.
Chief Inspector Stuart Austin, the Tendring District Commander, noted that police continue to prioritise reports from local residents and businesses to maintain these improvements in community safety.
