Families and community groups in Colchester, Essex, will have the chance to spend a night inside a historic fortress when the Knightzzz At The Museum sleepover returns on 29 May 2026. The event, hosted by Colchester Museums, allows visitors to explore the castle after hours and stay overnight inside the building.

The experience is designed for families and includes a range of activities like guided tours and meetings with people dressed in period costumes. Guests will also be served hot chocolate in the evening and breakfast the following morning before the event ends on 30 May 2026.

Those attending will be able to set up their sleeping bags in various historic parts of the castle. These areas include the old prison, the chapel, and the scriptorium, which was a room traditionally used for writing.

This event has been running for several years and is often held during school holidays to help local people learn about the town’s history. Colchester City Council oversees the museum’s operations and organises these overnight stays to provide a different way to see the landmark without daytime crowds.
