Tenants living in properties managed by Colchester Borough Homes are being asked to complete a census survey as part of an effort to better understand the needs of the local community. The housing provider, which looks after approximately 7,000 residential, commercial, and public buildings for Colchester City Council, is mailing the survey to residents to gather information on tenant requirements, communication preferences, and specific support needs.

The information collection is a requirement of the Transparency, Influence and Accountability Standard, which was introduced by the Regulator of Social Housing on 1 April 2024. This standard aims to ensure that social housing providers have a clear understanding of the diverse needs of their tenants to provide fairer and more effective services.

To conduct this work, Colchester Borough Homes has partnered with ARP Research, an independent agency that specialises in gathering feedback for housing providers across the country. As an incentive for taking part, tenants who complete and return the survey will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win £100 of shopping vouchers.

This initiative follows the release of the most recent tenant satisfaction results for 2025 and 2026, which showed an overall satisfaction rate of 78 per cent. The survey also highlighted areas where residents feel there is room for improvement, specifically regarding how complaints are handled and how well the landlord listens to and acts upon tenant views.
