A 38-year-old man from Colchester, Essex, has admitted to 33 shop thefts and repeatedly breaking a court order designed to stop his behaviour. Daniel Jones, of Spruce Avenue, was arrested on 6 February 2026 after being found by an Essex Police officer hiding inside the base of a divan bed at his home.

The thefts took place between April 2025 and January 2026 and mostly involved items taken from local Co-op stores. In total, the items were worth £2,926.73, and Jones admitted to ignoring his court-ordered rules 31 times during that time.

Magistrates ordered Jones to be held in custody on 28 February 2026 following his confession in court. He is now due to appear for sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court on 30 March 2026.
