On February 18, 2026, the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which runs health services in Colchester, Essex, published an inspection report showing that its Ipswich Hospital site must improve. The Care Quality Commission rated the hospital’s urgent care and medical services as requiring improvement.
The inspectors visited the hospital in September 2025 and found that some patients were being cared for in corridors because there were not enough beds. They also found that the hospital needed to move patients through the building more efficiently and make sure staff finished all of their required training.
Despite these issues, the report said that staff were kind and caring toward the people they treated. To help fix problems with communication and medical records, the trust started using a new digital filing system for patient records in October 2025.
Adrian Marr is serving as the temporary chief executive while the trust looks for a permanent leader. A new chair of the board, Tracy Dowling, is also set to begin her role on March 9, 2026.
Residents in Colchester can look at the findings to see what changes are being made, as the trust manages both hospitals under the same leadership team.
