A creative writing group for teenagers continues its regular sessions at Colchester Library this weekend. The Essex Library Service confirmed the Teen Creative Writing Group will gather in the Castle Room on Saturday, 11 July 2026, from 2:30pm to 3:30pm, offering a relaxed space for young writers aged 12 to 16.
“This small, friendly, volunteer run group is open to anyone aged 12 to 16 with an interest in creative writing. Booking is required,” states the event listing. Places are free, though registration is essential.
The session is part of the wider Essex Young Writers initiative, which runs similar programmes in other libraries across the county. The Chelmsford Library hosts a Youth Creative Writing Programme for ages 12 to 18 and a Junior Creative Writing Programme for children aged 7 to 12. Colchester Library, at Trinity Square, CO1 1JB, opens on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm and already runs a Block Builders Construction Club at the same time as the writing group, making it a busy hub for youth activities.
The Teen Creative Writing Group is not a one-off event, having met every other Saturday since 24 January 2026. The 11 July gathering marks the latest in this continuing volunteer-led programme, which welcomes short stories, poetry, or any written form young people wish to explore.
