A Crawley takeaway called Spice World has been fined for selling unsafe food following an investigation by West Sussex County Council. The business, located at 8 Bank Lane in Northgate, West Sussex, was taken to court after selling a meal containing allergens that could be dangerous to customers.
During a secret visit in September 2024, Trading Standards officers ordered a lamb doner kebab and specifically asked if it was free from milk. Although staff assured the officer the food was safe, laboratory tests later confirmed that the kebab contained milk protein.
At a hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 26 February 2026, the company EH Enterprise Limited pleaded guilty alongside its director, Zeshan UL HAQ, and manager, Ashan UL HAQ. The group was ordered to pay a combined total of more than £2,800 in fines and legal costs for the safety breach.
This is the second time the business has faced legal action for similar issues in recent years. Spice World was previously convicted in April 2024 for misdescribing meat products and providing the wrong information about allergens to shoppers.
Councillor Duncan Crow from the council explained that failing to provide correct allergen information can have very serious consequences. Local residents are encouraged to report any concerns about food businesses to Trading Standards to help prevent potential health risks in the community.
