London Gatwick in Crawley, West Sussex, has opened applications for its 2026 engineering apprenticeship programme to find the next generation of technical staff. The airport is looking for four new recruits to join the team, with training roles available in Electro/Mechanical engineering as well as heavy vehicle maintenance.
The application window opened on February 10, 2026, and will remain open until March 2, 2026. Those who are successful in the application process will begin their paid training in mid-August 2026.
This year’s intake includes three positions for Electro/Mechanical apprentices and one role focused on heavy vehicles. The four-year Electro/Mechanical programme allows students to gain practical experience while working toward a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in engineering, while the heavy vehicle pathway is a three-year programme leading to professional membership.
The launch of the recruitment drive took place during National Apprenticeship Week, which ran from February 9 to February 15, 2026. The airport has operated this training scheme since 1977 and has seen more than 300 graduates complete the programme over nearly 50 years.
These new opportunities follow the government approval of the Northern Runway Project in September 2025. The expansion project is expected to be operational by 2030 and will increase the need for skilled workers to maintain the airport’s specialist systems and machinery.
