Drivers in Framwellgate Moor, Pity Me, Newton Hall and Brasside face new parking and waiting restrictions from tomorrow, as Durham County Council brings its latest traffic management order into force. The Traffic Management Order 2011 Amendment Number 2 Order 2025, made on 5 June and published on 11 June, introduces No Waiting At Any Time controls at 16 locations across Pity Me and Newton Hall.
The restrictions, which take effect on 18 June, cover stretches of Front Street, Woodbine Road, Acorn Place, Carr House Drive, Langley Road, Hylton Road, St Godric’s Close and Mere Drive. A further set of time-limited restrictions, barring waiting and loading or unloading on weekdays between 8.15am and 9.15am and again from 2.45pm to 3.45pm, will be introduced on nine streets and amended on three others near Langley Road, Bek Road, Eden Road, Pit Lane and Wells Grove. Helen Bradley, Head of Legal and Democratic Services, signed the order at County Hall.
The 2011 traffic management order, which set the original framework for these northeastern suburbs, was first amended in 2018 when permit-holder parking outside Durham Trinity School on Dunholme Close was replaced with no-waiting and no-loading controls. The new amendment represents a wider review of restrictions along key commuter routes into Durham city centre, where parking conflicts during school drop-off and pick-up times are likely to have been identified. Anyone wishing to inspect the full order documents, including detailed plan drawings, can do so at Newton Hall Library on Alnwick Road.
Legal challenges to the order’s validity must be lodged within six weeks of 5 June, on the grounds that its powers or procedural steps were not properly followed. Enforcement begins immediately tomorrow, with penalties applying for vehicles that ignore the new restrictions.
