Residents in Durham, County Durham, should prepare for slushy roads and rising temperatures as early morning snow turns into heavy rain on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The Met Office expects the initial band of snow to move out of the area by 11:00 AM, making way for a steady thaw.

Temperatures are set to reach 6°C on Sunday and 7°C on Monday, which will quickly melt the snow left on the ground. A 95 per cent chance of heavy rain is forecast between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Sunday, which could cause difficult conditions for drivers and people walking.

To manage the melting snow and extra water, Durham County Council is monitoring approximately 120,000 street drains across the area. The council also has 42,000 tonnes of salt ready at its depots to treat 2,000km of the most important main roads.

The Environment Agency issued flood warnings across England as of 10:29 AM on Sunday due to the changing weather. People planning to travel on Monday morning are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, as slush and rain may cause delays on hilly city streets.
