Fleet Jazz Club’s summer season continues at The Harlington with a lunchtime recital on 4 June and an evening of Brazilian jazz on 16 June.
The first date, Thursday 4 June, puts tenor saxophonist Rob Fowler and pianist David Newton in the Function Room. Fowler started his professional life with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra in 1986 and has since worked with Brian Ferry, Keith Nichols and Enrico Tomasso. Newton has picked up the British Jazz Award for best pianist 16 times. Doors open at 11.20am and the music runs from 12pm to 1pm. Entry is £10 on the door by cash or card and no advance booking is needed.
On Tuesday 16 June the Andrew Cleyndert Super Band takes the stage at 8pm with Australian vocalist Georgia Van Etten. The programme, Straight Ahead Brazil!, explores the melodies and harmonies of Brazilian music. Cleyndert, a bassist of four‑and‑a‑half decades who has produced more than fifty albums on his own label, originally put the band together for a Chichester International Film Festival concert celebrating Quincy Jones. Alongside him are Paul Booth on saxophones, pianist Jim Watson and drummer Darren Beckett, with Van Etten – a performer at Montreux and Porretta Soul festivals – singing. Tickets are £20, or £5 for students, with cabaret reserved seating. Doors and the bar open at 7.15pm and the performance ends at 10pm.
Both concerts are being presented by The Harlington, the community venue run by Fleet Town Council at 236 Fleet Road. The box office can be reached on 01252 811009. The jazz club’s summer programme continues on 21 July with a Miles Davis centenary show from the Steve Waterman All‑Star Big Band.
