Hart District Council in Hampshire has launched a competition for primary schoolchildren in Fleet to design artwork for the area’s new food waste collection trucks. The contest started on February 16, 2026, and gives local children a chance to see their posters displayed on vehicles to help encourage more recycling across the community.

The competition is open to all children aged 4 to 11 who live in the Hart district or within Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. As shown on the Basingstoke and Deane website, children are asked to draw a bright poster that encourages people to waste less food or recycle their leftovers.

According to Hart District Council, all entries must be received by Sunday, March 15, 2026. Parents can scan and email the finished designs to local waste officials or send them by post to the civic offices in Basingstoke.

The winning designs will be professionally printed on the trucks operated by the council’s contractor, Serco. This project follows the introduction of weekly food waste collections in October 2025, which aims to turn food waste into green energy and fertiliser to help the area become carbon neutral by 2040.
