The Hampshire Youth Parliament officially started its new two-year term for 2026-2027 during its first in-person meeting on 24 February 2026. This means young people in Fleet and across Hampshire will have a new group of representatives speaking up on their behalf to local leaders.

The group, which is supported by Hampshire County Council, has chosen four main areas to focus on over the next two years. These priorities include tackling period poverty, improving crime and safety, addressing the cost of living, and dealing with misogyny.

Four national Members of Youth Parliament have been elected to represent the county. One representative, 13-year-old Jevan, intends to campaign for more youth centres and safe spaces to help reduce anti-social behaviour in local communities.

Another member, 15-year-old Bonnie, will lead efforts to run workshops on equality and ensure all schools provide free menstrual products. These goals were set to help the parliament address social and economic issues that affect families today.

The new term comes as the county prepares for local elections on 7 May 2026. This timing gives the youth representatives a chance to talk directly with council candidates about the needs of residents in Fleet and the surrounding Hart District.
