Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is asking for witnesses to come forward after a teenager was arrested following a disturbance at a supermarket in Fleet, Hampshire. Officers were called at about 8.49pm on Tuesday 17 March 2026 to reports of a man running near the junction of Fleet Road and Branksomewood Road challenging people to fight.

Shortly after the initial report, security staff at the local Sainsbury’s reported they had confronted a person suspected of theft from a shop. It was then reported that the individual threatened the staff members with a broken bottle neck. A 16-year-old boy from Crondall was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, theft from a shop, criminal damage, and common assault.

Local representative Councillor Steve Forster shared the police appeal as officers continue to look for anyone who saw the events to help with their investigation. The teenager has been released on police bail with conditions while the force gathers more information. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call 101 and use the reference number 44260127994.

This incident follows recent data from the police showing that violence and shoplifting are significant concerns for the community. In January 2026, there were 71 reports of violence and sexual offences and 15 reports of shoplifting in the town. Officers also carried out a separate crackdown on drug-related crime across the region earlier this month.
