Hampshire Constabulary has released new security camera photos of a man they want to identify after two robberies in Basingstoke, which is a popular shopping spot for people in Fleet, Hampshire. The incidents happened on January 26, 2026, during the busy late afternoon period near the town centre.

At approximately 5:24 PM, an 18-year-old woman was robbed of her mobile phone while in The Malls shopping area. Just eleven minutes later, a 25-year-old man was threatened and hit with a hammer in a nearby alleyway, causing injuries to his face.

The man police want to speak with is described as white, slim, and between 5ft 7ins and 6ft tall. He is thought to be between 20 and 35 years old, has a beard, and was seen carrying a red drawstring bag at the time of the attacks.

Anyone who recognises the man or was in the area and has dashcam or security camera footage from that evening is asked to contact the police. Officers are hoping the new images will help identify the person involved after their first checks did not find a suspect.
