People living in the town are being told to monitor local water levels closely. This is especially important for those in low-lying areas that might be at risk if conditions change.
Folkestone is often at risk of flooding because it sits in a valley and is home to the Pent Stream, which can overflow quickly. Folkestone & Hythe District Council is responsible for managing these surface water risks and emergency planning in the region.
Despite the current alert, the Met Office and the Environment Agency say the risk for the next five days is officially very low. This suggests the current warning may be due to a short-term local event rather than a long period of heavy rain.
