Folkestone & Hythe District Council has confirmed how residents in Folkestone, Kent, can view upcoming meeting agendas, watch live sessions online, and apply to speak about local building projects. These procedures allow the public to follow when specific building applications are being debated and ensure their views are officially heard by the council.

Planning committee meetings are typically held once a month on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM at the Civic Centre council chamber. According to the Folkestone & Hythe District Council, the agenda and details for each application are published five working days before the scheduled meeting.

Residents who wish to speak at a meeting must have already submitted a formal written comment on the specific application being discussed. To secure a spot to speak, individuals must then provide written notice to the council by 5:00 PM on the Thursday before the meeting takes place. A guide on how to speak at a meeting is available to help residents through the registration process.

For those who cannot attend the Civic Centre in person, meetings are live-streamed through a dedicated webcasting portal. This service is designed to allow more people to watch the decision-making process from their own homes.

This information is released as a major application for a wastewater treatment works (KCC/FH/0020/2025) linked to the Otterpool Park development is expected to be decided by Kent County Council in early 2026. The project is a proposed new town that would involve building thousands of new homes on local greenfield land.
