Folkestone & Hythe District Council shared the first images of a new £750,000 play area at the Lower Leas Coastal Park in Folkestone, Kent, on 25 February 2026. The project will replace old equipment with modern facilities designed to be accessible for all children and young people.

The updated park will feature a large play tower inspired by trees, complete with climbing nets and a slide. The council chose these designs following a public consultation where more than 1,100 residents shared their ideas for the site between late 2024 and early 2025.

A specialist company called Proludic is building the new equipment using materials that can handle the salty coastal air. Before the new structures are put in place, workers are currently finishing safety repairs to the nearby cliffs at The Vinery to prevent future landslides.

Council officials, including Cllr Connor McConville, expect the work to be finished in time for families to use the park during the 2026 summer season. This project marks the final stage of a long-term plan to update the popular flagship attraction, which first opened about 25 years ago.
