Residents in Blaydon-on-Tyne, Gateshead, can learn a new craft at Blaydon Library during a finger knitting workshop on 21 January 2026. The adults-only session will teach participants how to create a handmade necklace using only their fingers instead of traditional knitting needles.

The session is being organised by Gateshead Council and is set to run from 10:30am until 12:00pm. Entry to the workshop is £2 per person; booking is required and places are strictly limited to eight participants. Interested residents should check the council’s What’s On page or Eventbrite for availability and waiting-list options.

The event is part of the council’s wider ‘Transforming Libraries’ programme to modernise library buildings into community hubs offering activities and social groups where people can learn new skills and meet neighbours. The refurbishment work at Blaydon was supported by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “As our final library to be transformed with funding from the government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, Blaydon’s reopening marks the time to celebrate such an amazing project for our communities.” Anyone interested in attending the knitting session or other upcoming crafts can find more details through Gateshead Council’s What’s On listings or via Eventbrite.
