Gateshead residents curious about volunteering can get free one-to-one guidance at three drop-in sessions across the borough this month. The Gateshead Volunteer Centre, part of charity Connected Voice, is hosting the events without any need for an appointment.

The first session runs at Strathmore Road Methodist Church in Rowlands Gill on 13 July from 9:30am to 11:30am. On 16 July, the team sets up at Leam Lane Library between 10:30am and 12:30pm, followed by a session at The One Centre in Pelaw on 20 July from 10am to 1pm. Staff will help match each person’s skills and interests to suitable roles already available with local organisations.

The centre holds a Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation from NAVCA, the national body for voluntary and community action. It operates under Connected Voice, a charity formed in 1929 that has supported Tyneside’s voluntary sector through deep social changes. The charity extended its services into Gateshead in 2016 and now holds contracts with both Newcastle and Gateshead councils to support community groups across the area.

Residents who cannot attend a drop-in can still reach the team directly by emailing [email protected] or calling 0191 235 7038.
