The Gateshead Foodbank is seeking new volunteers to help at a supermarket collection event taking place at the Asda Metrocentre on Saturday, 6 June 2026. This appeal comes as the charity continues to provide essential support across the region, having helped 7,717 people between April 2025 and March 2026.

During that same twelve-month period, the foodbank distributed more than 120 tonnes of food with the help of over 100 dedicated volunteers. The organisation, which is part of the Trussell Trust network, operates three distribution centres across Gateshead and runs seven sessions each week to ensure those in need can access support.

The service relies on a voucher system managed in partnership with over 80 local organisations to provide up to seven days of emergency food for residents in the NE8, NE9, NE10, NE11, NE16, NE17, NE21, NE39, NE40, and DH3 postcode areas. Those interested in donating food can check which items are most needed by using the BanktheFood app, or by dropping items at designated collection points.

Anyone wishing to support the work of the charity by volunteering at the upcoming supermarket event can find more information and sign up through the Gateshead Foodbank website.
