Emergency crews were called to a house fire in a residential cul-de-sac on Chopwell Gardens in Wrekenton, Gateshead, at approximately 8pm on Friday, 3 April 2026.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to manage the blaze at the property, which is maintained by Gateshead Council. Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, including their specialist Hazardous Area Response Team, also arrived to provide assistance.

One woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment following the incident.

Northumbria Police have taped off the area around the property, and an officer remained on-site the following morning to guard the location. Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently ongoing.
