The Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is carrying out a live training exercise at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on February 28, 2026. This drill will help emergency teams practice how to handle incidents at the hospital site in Gloucester, Gloucestershire.

While residents may notice emergency vehicles and staff in the area, hospital services will continue to run as normal. There is no cause for alarm because the session is only a simulation and not a real emergency.

The training allows crews to test their response while a section of Claremont Road remains shut for essential electrical infrastructure upgrades until August 14, 2026. Fire crews will use the exercise to find the best ways to reach the hospital while this access route is closed.

This exercise follows a fire that broke out in the hospital’s Tower Block in November 2025, which required patients to be moved for their safety. According to the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the building is also undergoing a four-year project to replace old fire safety equipment.
