Gloucestershire Libraries has announced its upcoming summer initiative, Tales Through Time, which will run from 11 July to 12 September 2026. The programme offers activities for children aged three and older across the service’s 32 branches in Gloucestershire, including a special focus at the Gloucester Library.

The challenge features six themed zones that cover over 30 historical eras. At the Gloucester Library, residents can participate in events centred on the local theme of Literary Legacies, which falls under the broader Big Stories, Small Island category. These activities are designed to bring history to life through local engagement.

Participation in the challenge is free for anyone with a library membership. Children earn stamps by completing interactive tasks, progressing through three levels: Bronze for three stamps, Silver for six, and Gold for nine. Participants will receive stickers and certificates as they reach each milestone.

Those who complete the Gold level will be awarded a Tales Through Time medal and entered into a prize draw for book bundles or vouchers. The initiative builds on previous success for the service, which saw approximately 7,000 children participate in its 2024 summer challenge.

According to Gloucestershire County Council, the library service is overseen by Cllr Dave Norman MBE, the Cabinet Member for Fire, Community Safety and Libraries. Residents interested in joining can sign up at any local branch.
