The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the River Severn in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to cause water levels to rise on February 18, 2026. Officials recorded the river at approximately 3.47 metres at the Gloucester gauge this morning, which has triggered concerns for low-lying land and properties nearby.

According to the Met Office, there is a 95 per cent chance of rain between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM tonight. This weather is accompanied by wind gusts reaching 30mph, creating a risk of localised flooding on roads and in gardens through to Thursday morning.

High-risk areas for flooding include Sandhurst Lane, Base Lane, and the A417 road between Over and Maisemore. Information from Flood Assist suggests that these locations are particularly vulnerable to rising water levels during this period of unsettled weather.

Gloucester City Council has previously prepared the GL1 Leisure Centre as an emergency space for residents if flood defences are at risk of being overwhelmed. This measure is intended to support people living on Alney Island and other high-risk zones if river levels continue to climb.

Residents are being advised to secure their homes and avoid driving through floodwater on local roads. The Environment Agency will continue to update its maps and river level data every few hours as the rain continues.
