A 69-year-old man was arrested in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, on 18 March 2026 on suspicion of the rape, kidnap, and indecent assault of a woman more than three decades ago. Officers took the man into custody after visiting a property in the city to investigate serious sexual crimes alleged to have happened during the 1970s and 1980s.

According to Gloucestershire Constabulary, the suspect is currently being held for questioning regarding several historical offences. These include kidnap, rape, indecent assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Specialist police staff remain at the scene of the arrest to carry out a search of the home as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher of the Major Crime Investigation Team is leading the case. He stated that the violent sexual offences were committed over a sustained period and have had a significant and lasting impact on the victim. The woman involved has been informed of the arrest and has been offered access to specialist support services.

This arrest comes as police forces across the country continue to use modern DNA technology to solve older crimes. The investigation highlights a commitment to pursuing serious cases no matter how much time has passed since they occurred. Police officials noted that this work aims to provide answers and a sense of closure for victims of historical violence.
