Police have urged Gloucester residents to stay alert after thieves smashed into two cars in city centre car parks and stole valuables in broad daylight on 5 July. Gloucestershire Constabulary issued the warning through the Your Community Alerts system, less than 24 hours after the break-ins.
In the first incident, a driver’s window was broken on a vehicle parked in Eastgate Street between 5:30pm and 6:52pm, and a ‘My car place screen’ was taken. A second car, left in the Kings Square car park between 9am and 7pm, had its passenger window smashed, with a pair of sunglasses and some loose change stolen.
The rapid alert was sent out by crime prevention officer Rhian Rose-Jones on 6 July and is also being shared across the city by the Gloucester Neighbourhood Watch Association. Scheme coordinators receive police messages through the Watchword system, covering crime trends and specific incidents so members can take practical precautions in their own streets.
Anyone with information about either theft can contact Gloucestershire Constabulary online, quoting incident 468-05/07/26 for the Eastgate Street break-in or 475-05/07/26 for the Kings Square theft.
