Haverhill residents are being urged to check their bin collection dates as West Suffolk Council makes changes to services for the upcoming bank holidays in May.
Collections will shift to accommodate the two holidays this month. Changes are in place for the Early May bank holiday between 4 May and 9 May, and again for the Spring bank holiday between 25 May and 30 May. The council handles 83,500 bin collections every week across the district, and these adjustments ensure services continue as normal following the holidays.
To ensure no collections are missed, residents are encouraged to look up their specific updated days through the My West Suffolk online portal. The local authority is also working with local volunteers known as “Bin-fluencers”, who are helping to share information about the revised dates with their family, friends, and neighbours.
These changes precede a wider shift in waste services, as the council prepares to launch the Better Recycling campaign and a new collection schedule on 1 June 2026. Households in Haverhill have already received new recycling bins and food waste caddies earlier this year in anticipation of this service update.
According to Councillor Dave Taylor, the Cabinet Member for Operations, the council is grateful for the continued support of the community in adapting to these necessary changes to local waste collection routines.
