On 4 February 2026 the West Suffolk Council Cabinet backed a two-year balanced budget that protects essential services and community facilities across West Suffolk, including in Haverhill, Suffolk. The Cabinet decision locks in funding for public services covering 2026/27 and 2027/28, helping to protect local programmes, street cleaning and leisure centres from cuts through March 2028; the budget is due to be considered for final ratification by Full Council on 24 February 2026.

The council has invested to secure the Haverhill Health and Wellbeing Hub, and the hub’s partners have said it was set to open in January 2026. The hub will bring together professionals, charities and community groups to offer coordinated health support, social activities, peer support and advice on housing, employment and finances for local families.

The council will continue its partnership with local charities such as REACH Community Projects to support residents struggling with the cost of living and to provide frontline assistance. The budget also includes town-centre investments to help maintain and improve public spaces around local amenities such as Haverhill Library; (note: library services are operated by Suffolk County Council).

Council leaders say the two-year approach provides greater financial certainty during difficult economic times, and that they are using the council’s Local Plan (West Suffolk Local Plan 2024041) to manage growth and help secure funding for community improvements.
