Haverhill Library in Suffolk is running a series of free weekly sessions throughout January and February 2026 to help residents with their mental health and provide activities for families. These sessions act as a direct response to the local need for affordable things to do and mental health support during the cold winter months.

The library, which is now managed by Suffolk Community Libraries (part of Suffolk County Council), offers groups like Baby Bounce for new parents and Open Space for adults. These sessions are designed to be a safe place for people to socialise and get support without needing a library membership or a referral from a doctor.

According to Haverhill Town Council, these efforts are linked to a new health and wellbeing hub due to open in the town in January 2026. A study published in the Journal of Positive Psychology found that people who take part in library activities often report increased life satisfaction and improved mental wellbeing.

Families can also visit the library on Camps Road for the weekly Lego Club (weekend sessions) and Sunday crafts, while people over 55 can attend the Top Time social group on Wednesdays. A full list of events and times is available through Suffolk Community Libraries.

The library continues to serve as a warm space for the community, offering free Wi-Fi and a heated environment for those who need it. Most sessions are free to attend and provide a chance for residents to meet their neighbours in a friendly setting.
