People in Haverhill, Suffolk, can use a new online tool to create a personalised fire escape plan for their homes in about five minutes. Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service is offering the tool on the Suffolk County Council website, and more than 1,000 people had used the quiz by 29 January 2026.

The digital resource includes a 16-question quiz that checks for common risks and helps residents create a personalised escape plan (listing main and back-up escape routes, a refuge room and an assembly point). Users have given the tool an average rating of 4.4 out of 5, and it allows them to email the finished safety plan to themselves and others in their household.

This follows the 11 February 2025 report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), which urged Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service to strengthen how it engages the public as part of its prevention work. The online tool supports that aim by encouraging self-assessment and directing higher-risk households to follow-up visits, which can help crews prioritise face-to-face visits for the most vulnerable and focus operational resources on high-priority emergencies.

Households that the quiz or online check flags as higher risk are advised to request or be referred for a free in-person Home Fire Safety Visit by Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service. Residents can also contact Haverhill Fire Station on Lordscroft Lane for local advice and information about safety visits.
