The West Suffolk Council advised residents in Haverhill, Suffolk, on 3 February 2026 to use the Suffolk County Council Highways Reporting Tool to report potholes and road faults directly to the authority responsible for fixing them. The guidance is intended to ensure repair requests are logged with the county highways team rather than being misdirected to district offices.

The Suffolk County Council Highways Reporting Tool allows people to use a digital map to pin the exact location of a problem. Residents can also use the system to report broken streetlights and drainage issues, receiving a reference number and the ability to monitor the status of their report.

This move follows a Department for Transport ratings publication on 11 January 2026 that gave the county an overall ‘Red’ rating. The DfT’s assessment said Suffolk had spent about £36.4 million of an allocated £43.7 million for the 2025/26 year — roughly £7.3 million unspent — a point the county has disputed while defending its record and its use of newer repair technology.

By using the online system, residents help the council gather the data it needs to prioritise the busiest roads, such as the A1307 and A143. Officials say clearer, directly logged reporting should help prioritisation and speed up fixes, improving the condition of local streets for the community.
